Locals appear as extras in music video

SPRUCE PINE – Some familiar Mitchell County faces can be seen in the newest music video by a Nashville, Tennessee-based trio of sisters.

The country music group McGuire, made up of sisters Kristen, Taylor and Caleigh McGuire, recently filmed its video for the song “I Blame You” at the Smithmore Castle in Spruce Pine. By chance, four Mitchell County natives were cast as extras and can be seen during a portion of the video.

Alex McKinney, Brody Smith, Ben Robinson and Preston Roe were lifting weights together when Preston’s mother, Julene Roe, called him about the request for extras, which was posted on Facebook.

“All we knew is they needed male extras,” Smith said. “So, we all just kind of showed up and they put us in the video.”

McGuire sister Kristen said the group heard about Smithmore Castle through a friend.

“Everyone was really grateful and helpful,” Kristen said. “It is such a beautiful area and we are thrilled with the way it turned out.”

The video can be seen on YouTube at https://youtu.be/KcD0AxauvcA. Robinson, McKinney, Smith and Roe appear at about the 1:40 mark.
