LaPlante named animal cruelty investigator
BAKERSVILLE – David LaPlante is Mitchell County’s newest animal cruelty investigator.
The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved his appointment to the position at its regular meeting this past week.
LaPlante, who is also a Mitchell County Sheriff’s Deputy, takes over the position that opened after the previous investigator, Mitchell County Animal Rescue Executive Director Patricia Beam, retired.
LaPlante was at the meeting along with Mitchell County Sheriff Donald Street and was officially sworn into the position.
“There’s a lot of responsibility with this,” Street said. “Sometimes you make people mad, but that’s part of the job.”
The commissioners congratulated LaPlante and wished him luck in his new position.
“We appreciate your willingness to do it,” said Commissioner Matthew “Vern” Grindstaff. “I don’t think it could have gone to a better person.”
