Inaugural home show expected to be big event
BURNSVILLE – Several area businesses, including many from Mitchell County, as well as companies from around the country are gearing up for this weekend’s first Blue Ridge Spring Home & Garden Show at the Burnsville Town Center.
The show is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and noon-5 p.m. Sunday, May 19. In addition to the nearly 40 vendors at the show, event organizers Claudia Bailey Honeycutt and Sandy Phillips have added trolley rides both days and tethered hot air balloon rides from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.
“It is going to be huge,” Honeycutt said about the event. “There really is going to be something for everyone at the show. Not only will there be an array of things for your home and garden but also a variety of other vendors as well.”
There will be vendors offering gardens and outdoor living displays, indoor improvement options, food trucks and a fashion show. There will also be live entertainment and a wine and beer garden sponsored by Nu Wray Inn.
Sears Hometown Store of Spruce Pine has donated a new washer and dryer as one of the many door prizes up for grabs during the show.
“If people don’t come to this, they will be missing out,” said Chad Ledford, owner of Spruce Pine-based Patriot Powerwash of Western North Carolina. “There will be a great bunch of vendors who have put a lot of time and effort into it. It’s going to be very beneficial to businesses like mine that are just getting off the ground because it’s not only good for people in the community to know what I offer but also for the other businesses to know as well.”
Ledford has been operating his power washing business part-time for some time but is beginning this week doing it full time. He said the show could not have come at a better time.
“I think the main focus of the show is keeping money local by hiring local businesses,” Ledford said. “The tri-county area is really one big community and this show allows the community a chance to take care of itself.”
Tickets are $5 in advance and may be purchased online at www.blueridgespringhomeshow.com and $7 at the door.
