Hotsy Totse’s Burrito Bar will not re-open
SPRUCE PINE – Another Spruce Pine restaurant is going out of business.
Hotsy Totse’s Burrito Bar, at 203 Skyview Circle in Spruce Pine, will not re-open after closing for the winter. The restaurant opened this past August.
“It is with much regret that I announce Hotsy Totse’s will not be re-opening this season,” owner Anita McGee said in an April 3 post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “This decision was not made lightly, but due to circumstances beyond our control, it is what’s best for our family.”
Hotsy Totse’s joins Spruce Pine restaurants Twisted Laurel, The Pizza Shop and Dry County Brewing Co. and Knife & Fork on the list of recent closings. Harvest Market in Bakersville also closed in 2017 as did Spruce Pine bakery Visions in Cake.
“There was just not enough community support,” McGee said this past Friday in a phone interview. “We had support from tourists, but not having any tourists for about half the year just made it really difficult. It’s just the cycle of Spruce Pine. As much as I hate to do it, I really had no other choice. I don’t think we are the only restaurant that has this problem.”
McGee said her daughter, who has cystic fibrosis, has recently taken a turn for the worse and that factored into her decision as well.
“We apologize to our faithful regulars,” McGee said. “We appreciate your business and support. We love and will miss you all.”
