A hotel on the horizon?
BAKERSVILLE – Mitchell County will lend financial assistance to Mayland Community College for its Pinebridge Inn project.
The Mitchell County Board of Commissioners made the financial support official at its regular meeting Monday, July 1, by unanimously approving a resolution that allows the county to appropriate $150,000 of its general revenue for the project.
The resolution states the money will be used for repairs, renovations and improvements necessary for the Pinebridge Inn to receive a certificate of occupancy as a lodging facility for paying guests.
The resolution also gives the county permission to appropriate up to a maximum amount of an additional $150,000 as matching funds to assist with renovation and repair.
The additional $150,000 can only be appropriated through fiscal year 2028-29 and is contingent on the availability of funds and can only be made after ample public notice and a public hearing.
The approval of the resolution came after a public hearing during which no comments were made.
Following the hearing, board chair Danny Burleson voiced his strong support of the resolution.
“This is true economic development,” Burleson said. “We have to have somewhere for people to stay and I’m pleased we’re doing this.”
