Hise, Dobson join Dolly Parton to celebrate Smart Starts’ 25th anniversary
RALEIGH – Sen. Ralph Hise, R-Mitchell, and Rep. Josh Dobson, R-McDowell, recently attended Smart Start’s 25th Anniversary Gala at Marbles Kids Museum.
The focus of the event was to celebrate Smart Start’s 25th Anniversary and the success of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, for which $3.5 million for 2017-18 and $7 million for 2018-19 was appropriated in the state budget.
Once fully implemented in the fiscal year 2018-19, access to the program will be statewide.
“It was a great pleasure to meet Dolly Parton and celebrate with her the success of her Imagination Library,” Hise said. “We were glad to partner with her to promote literacy through providing books every month from birth through age 5.”
Dobson stressed the value of reading and the importance of the Imagination Library.
“Putting a book in every child’s hand every month up to the age of 5 is one of the most important things I have been able to work on in the General Assembly,” Dobson said. “Thank you to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for making this happen.”
