Fundraising for ‘Shop with a Cop’ underway

BAKERSVILLE – Mitchell County law enforcement is raising money for the 10th annual Shop with a Cop.

“We need help making sure every Santa comes to every child in Mitchell County,” said Donald Street, Mitchell County Sheriff. “Shop with a Cop is a positive way to give back to your community.”

The Spruce Pine Police Department, Bakersville Police Department, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Highway patrol and the State Bureau of Investigation are asking for donations to take more than 60 Mitchell County children shopping for a coat, warm clothes, shoes, a hat and gloves.

Shop with a Cop not only provides essential items for children in need but also fosters positive relationships with law enforcement. Participating children are identified by schools, churches, youth organizations and social services agencies.

On the day of the event, uniformed officers volunteer their time to be with the children at a designated location.

Donations can be dropped off at or mailed to the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, 63 Crimson Laurel Way, Suite 8, Bakersville, NC 28705 with Shop with a Cop written on the memo line on checks.

Call the sheriff’s office at 825-688-3982 for more information.
