Firm hired to manage construction of county’s new school project
LEDGER – The Mitchell County Board of Education at a special meeting Tuesday, June 4, approved Vannoy Construction as the construction manager for the county’s new school project.
Vannoy emerged as the top choice of the school system’s selection committee, and the selection is contingent upon the appropriation of the necessary funds.
Vannoy will require a $100,000 pre-construction fee and a 3.75 percent fee from the total cost of the project. The fees are included in the $22 million project budget.
The $22 million budget includes the construction of a new school and a four-classroom addition at Greenlee Primary School.
The board approved Vannoy via a 4-1 vote. Brenda Sparks was the lone dissenter.
Sparks said she doesn’t agree with the Greenlee addition and would prefer all the project budget be used for the new school.
“I can’t vote for this,” Sparks said. “I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
