Deyton receives Sunshine Citizen Award
Mitchell High School Library Media Specialist Tracy Deyton was selected as a recipient of the 2019 Sunshine Citizen Award given by the NC Open Government Coalition at a ceremony Monday, March 11, at Elon University.
Sunshine Day brings together journalists, media companies, attorneys and the public to celebrate openness and transparency in North Carolina government. The celebration coincides annually with North Carolina Sunshine Week to bring awareness to the importance of open and accountable government in the state.
“I received the ‘Citizen Award,’ and though I’m proud as punch to have received it, the biggest gift was the nomination itself,” Deyton said. “The words Michael Lavender wrote will forever and ever be a treasure in my heart. He has given me a gift that I’ll never forget. I am beyond overwhelmed.”
