County has dismal voter turnout for Primary
BAKERSVILLE – Mitchell County had a 21.25 percent voter turnout for this past Tuesday’s Primary Election.
Mitchell County has 10,940 registered voters and 2,325 ballots were cast.
Republican ballots accounted for 1,983 of the total ballots. There were 342 Democrat ballots cast and two blank ballots.
Grassy Creek led the county in ballots cast with 1,242. Bakersville was second with 295 and Snow Creek was third with 275.
Mitchell County’s voter turnout is up from the June 2016 primary, during which 622 of 10,958 registered voters cast ballots (5.68 percent).
In the March 2016 primary, which included Presidential candidates, 4,660 of 10,901 registered voters cast ballots in Mitchell County for 42.75 percent.
