Cane Creek Community BBQ most successful ever
BAKERSVILLE – Nearly 200 friends and neighbors Saturday, Oct. 6, attended the Cane Creek Community Association’s annual Neighborhood Barbecue at the Community Building in the Hawk Community.
Barbecue and mountain music was furnished by more than a dozen of the area’s best musicians.
This annual event is always the first Saturday of October and has become a tradition many look forward to each fall.
The proceeds of this barbecue support those in this community who may be in need, as well as other service projects sponsored by this neighborhood association.
“We think this event is a great way for us to gather with neighbors so we can get to know each other better – plus it allows us to expand the scope of what we can give back to this community,” said Randall Staton, Cane Creek Community Association president. “It was wonderful to see how so many friends came together to make this event such a success.”
The association’s next event is its annual Veterans Day Breakfast Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Community Building.
“This is just a small way for us to honor our neighbors who have served our country as veterans, and we invite you to join us,” said Bruce Koran, the association’s chief chef.
The breakfast is 8-11 a.m. and features scrambled eggs, sausage, Dellinger’s grits, and biscuits and gravy. Tickets are $5 at the door, and all veterans eat free as honored guests. The group also meets monthly for a potluck dinner at the Community Building at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month and invites all Cane Creek area neighbors to join in sharing food and fellowship.
