BOWMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL: BETA club raising money for Florida trip

BAKERSVILLE – The Bowman Middle School BETA Club has taken fundraising efforts online to raise money for a trip to Florida State University’s Coastal and Marine Laboratory.

Bowman teacher and BETA Club co-sponsor Chad Rogers put the project called “Mountaineers Make the Best Marine Biologists” on to raise the $735 needed for the trip.

“My goal is to provide my students with hands-on and life-changing experiences that go beyond the classroom,” Rogers said. “Florida State University’s Coastal and Marine Laboratory will give our students opportunities and experiences they can only imagine, or may not have imagined.” was founded in 2000 by a Bronx, New York, high school teacher.

The website empowers public school teachers to request needed materials and money for experiences for their students.

Rogers’ project will allow students to experience what life is like as a marine biologist at the laboratory in St. Teresa, Florida, which routinely hosts educational groups from all over the world.
