$600,000 donated to Fund for Mitchell County

An anonymous donor has made a $600,000 contribution to The Fund for Mitchell County, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, or CFWNC. With years of community support and this contribution, the Fund’s assets now total $1 million.

The Fund for Mitchell County was established in 1999 by residents as a permanent charitable endowment to meet local needs. Gifts are added to the Fund’s principal to be preserved and invested.

From the Fund, grants support nonprofits in Mitchell County. Since 1999, The Fund for Mitchell County, in partnership with CFWNC, has awarded 78 grants to 38 organizations totaling more than $695,000.

“We are very grateful for every generous person who helped us reach this goal,” said Dan Barron, Fund for Mitchell County Advisory Board Chair. “Especially for an anonymous donor who wants no credit for themselves, but whose contribution will mean so much to Mitchell County. Building this permanent resource for Mitchell County means we can fund important projects now and continue to meet changing needs over time.”

The Fund for Mitchell County’s most recent grants were awarded to:

• Mitchell County Animal Rescue for general support;

• Mitchell County Shepherd’s Staff for its food pantry; and

• Mitchell County Group Home to purchase a TV for its residents.
