Dale Blevins, Lee Ellis and Harley Masters were the top three vote-getters in last week’s Mitchell County Board of Commissioners race.

For the Board of Education, Sam Blevins and Brenda Sparks were running unopposed. Kathy Laws also ran for Register of Deeds unopposed, and Ed Terrell ran for Soil and Water Conservation district supervisor unopposed.

Republicans Dale Blevins, Ellis and Masters were competing with Bill Hoag (unaffiliated), Ron McKinney (Democrat) and Jan Hamilton (Democrat) for three seats on the Board of Commissioners.

Masters, the current board chair, was the only incumbent in the race after Clayton Roberts and Brandon Pittman lost the Republican primary election at the beginning of the year.

In the presidential election, Mitchell County supported Republican winner Donald Trump with 77.39 percent of the vote. Democrat Kamala Harris received only 21.66 percent of the Mitchell vote. Libertarian Chase Oliver received 0.26 percent of local votes cast, while Green Party candidate Jill Stein received 0.22 percent.

Various write-in candidates received 0.24 percent of the vote locally and Constitution Party candidate Randall Terry received 0.17 percent. Cornel West of the Justice for All party received six votes, or 0.07 percent.

In the U.S. House of Representatives race for District 11, Mitchell County supported Republican winner Chuck Edwards with 78.63 percent of the vote. Democrat Caleb Rudow received 21.37 percent of the vote.

In the state legislature, the Republican incumbents also won easily with similar numbers to other Republican candidates. State Rep. Dudley Greene defeated challenger John Ford and State Sen. Ralph Hise defeated Frank Patton Hughes III.
