SPRUCE PINE - Clayton Thomas, 91, of Estatoe Acres, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Charles George V.A. Medical Center in Asheville. Clayton was born on February 3, 1923 in Yancey County and was the son of the late Cas and Ella Roberts Thomas. He was also preceded in death by a brother, S.F. Thomas; and brothers-in-law Glen Pendle and Jimmy Smith. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a survivor of Pearl Harbor. Also, he was the owner/operator of Clayton Thomas Siding Company.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Pendley Thomas of Spruce Pine; his step daughter, Brenda Randolph and husband, Jeff of Mars Hill; a step son, Tim Snyder and wife, Dawnita of Spruce Pine; four step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Cranford and husband, James of Marion, Valerie Pendle of Detroit, MI, Helen Smith of Florida, and Willa Mae Whitson and husband, Sherwood of Burnsville; a nephew, Sam Thomas and wife, Christine; and a great nephew, Richard Thomas.

A memorial service was held on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Ray officiating. Entombment will follow in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. A time to receive friends, share memories and support the family was held from 6 p.m. until the hour of the service at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine assisted the family.
