Connor Warren may soon need a bigger trophy case.

The rising Mitchell High junior earned another piece of hardware this past week, cruising to a title in the 18th Carolinas Golf Association Dogwood State Junior Boys’ Championship at Holly Ridge Golf Links in Archdale.

Warren put together three straight rounds of 4-under-par 68 to capture the title, which comes just a few months after he won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1A individual golf title.

Warren shot 33 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine in all three rounds and finished at 12 under, 204. He won by two strokes over Waxhaw’s Matthew McDougall and three strokes over Quinian Polin and Davis Sayman of Cary and Charlotte, respectively.

Warren said it was all about playing his game.

“Keep it in play and stay consistent,” he said. “I wanted to make birdies when I had the chance and I gave myself a lot of chances today.”

Holly Ridge Golf Links presents golfers with a unique combination of risk-reward holes and penalty sections. The greens grew firmer by the minute via hot summer weather and some passing storms.

Warren emerged as the top dog in a field of more than 170 players. He summed up the emotions as “unreal” and will now prepare to start his junior year at Mitchell in just a few weeks.

“Winning a CGA Tournament is an unreal feeling,” Warren said. “I want to thank my family and fellow competitors this week.”
