Mitchell High senior Tim Hollifield is the 2021-22 Western Highlands Conference Player of the Year, WHC officials announced this past week.

Hollifield’s honor is part of the conference’s annual All-WHC selections. In addition to his Player of the Year nod, Hollifield is an All-WHC honoree along with fellow Mountaineers Ty Turbyfill, Ethan Willis and Konner Murphy.

On the girls’ side, Mitchell’s Chandra Jenkins, Savannah Banks and Reagan Sparks earned All-WHC recognition.

Hollifield earned the coveted WHC Player of the Year nod through a strong senior campaign in which he averaged just shy of 20 points per game. He set school records for points in a single game by pouring in 50 against Owen and 3-pointers made in a single game by draining nine against Rosman.

Both Mitchell varsity teams made the state playoffs. The girls won in the first round but fell in the second round to top-seeded Murphy. The boys fell in the opening round to Christ the King.
