BAKERSVILLE - Maggie Ellis Robinson, age 92, of Bakersville, North Carolina, passed away on Aug. 3, 2014.

Maggie was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Bertie Jane Ellis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Robinson; her daughter, Joan Duncan; her brothers, Albert, Clingman, and Howard Ellis; and her sisters, Lena Wiseman, Coralee Shuford and Ella Johnson.

Maggie was a member of the Bakersville United Methodist Church, the Social Services Board of Mitchell County, and the Mitchell County Homemakers Association. She worked for the Bakersville branch of the United States Postal Service and as a docent at both Penland School of Crafts in Spruce Pine, NC and Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. Maggie and Ben were married for 66 years and loved traveling together and entertaining family and friends. Maggie was a great cook and was always pleased to share advice and recipes with her community. She also enjoyed painting and gardening, and took special pride in her rose garden.

Mrs. Robinson is survived by her sister, Zola West of Spruce Pine, NC; two sons: Michael Robinson and wife Diana of Asheville, NC; Mitchell Robinson and wife Sandy of Johnson City, TN; and four grandchildren: Steve Duncan of Raleigh, NC; Ellis Robinson of Greensboro, NC; Meg Robinson of Jonesborough, TN; and Alex Robinson of Nashville, TN.

A service to celebrate the life of Maggie Robinson will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Bakersville United Methodist Church. Family and friends will assemble at Maggie’s home following the service. The family would like to express a special “thank you” to the staff of the Mitchell House and the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital of Spruce Pine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Snow Hill Cemetery Fund PO Box 361 Bakersville, NC 28705, or your favorite charity are welcomed.
