NEWLAND – William “Bill” Lipps, 68, of Lipps Lane, Little Buck Hill community, died Monday, July 21, 2014 at his home. He was born March 15, 1946 in Avery County, to the late Thomas Franklin and Anna Ray Aldridge Lipps. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Buckner, Laura “Tommie” Rohr and Betty Leonhardt; and brothers, Ben, T.J., Sam, John “Buck” and Clay Lipps. Bill was a cabinet maker at Henredon Furniture Industries for 38 years and was a maintenance worker at Linville Land Harbor when he passed away. He was a member of Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church and loved to cook for his family, going fishing and sitting on the porch. His most cherished time was spent with his family, especially his loving granddaughter, Taylor Rae Perkins.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Buchanan Lipps of the home; a daughter, Billie Perkins and husband, Joey of King; cherished granddaughter, Taylor Rae Perkins of King; sisters, Mary Jo Thomas and husband, Kenneth of Newland, and Diane Street and husband, Wayne of Bakersville; one brother, Jack Lipps and wife, Jeanie of Fayetteville; sisters in law, Glenda Lipps, Betty Lipps, Elvie Crowder and Gertie Anglin; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kurt Bomar officiating. Interment followed in Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery. A time to receive friends and share memories was from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the church. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the ICU at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Carol Smith of Medi Home Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to Medi Home Hospice at 436 Hospital Drive, Linville, NC 28646. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine assisted the family.
