BAKERSVILLE - Bernice Gouge Geouge, 70, of Pitman Road in the Penland community, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at her residence. Born on January 27, 1944 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lee and Marcella Sparks Gouge. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Allen Duncan. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and crocheting. She was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Phillip Geouge of Spruce Pine; a son, Harold Van Grindstaff and wife, Sissy of Marion; a daughter, Kristy Griggs and husband, Randy of Burnsville, six brothers, Ray Gouge and wife, Dawn of Spruce Pine, Henry “Duck” Gouge of Newton, Donald Gouge and wife, Kitty of Nebo, Carl Gouge of Marion, Kenneth Duncan and wife, Sandy of Morganton, and Keith Duncan and wife, Rhonda of Morganton; three sisters, Irene Henson and husband, Bob of Bakersville, Ilene Burleson and husband, Rusty of Bakersville, and Carol Robinson and husband, Jeff of Bakersville; grandchildren, Samuel and Sarah Grindstaff, Heaven Friesland and A.J. and Kaeleigh Griggs; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, in the chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine with the Rev. Chris Rathbone officiating. Interment followed in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. A time to receive friends and share memories and support the family was from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
