SPRUCE PINE - Anis Thompson, age 84, of Willis Street in Spruce Pine, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014 at Brian Center Health and Rehab in Spruce Pine.

Born in Mitchell County on Jan. 30, 1930, she was the daughter of the late McCoy and Elizabeth Carpenter Stamey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle Thompson who passed away in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her grandson; Josh Mullis, her sister; Mary Stamey; and her brothers; Louis, Lindsay, Charles, Mack, Clarence, Lee Roy, Coy, James, and Billie Stamey.

Anis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, and traveling. She lived a simple life and her church and church family were a big part of her life.

Left to cherish her memories are her son; Roger Thompson and wife, Angela of Spruce Pine; her daughter; Linda Kay Williams and husband, Don of Spruce Pine; her grandsons; Kevin Williams of Spruce Pine and Jeremy Thompson and wife, Leah of Nebo; her sisters; Lucille Pitman of Spruce Pine; Ruby Bentley of Gastonia; Dorothy Autrey of Louisburg; Shirley Peake of Morganton; Barbara Ward and husband, Wayne of Spruce Pine; and Frances King and husband, Howard of Kernersville; and her sisters-in-law; Inez Stamey of Spruce Pine, Joyce Stamey of Shelby and Ruth Ellen Stamey of Spruce Pine.

A funeral service honoring the life of Mrs. Anis Thompson was held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine with Dr. Rocky Branch officiating. Interment followed in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. A time to receive friends and share memories and support the family was held from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine.

Flowers were accepted and appreciated.
