SPRUCE PINE, N.C.— Joseph "Joe" Davenport, age 71, of the Grassy Creek Community, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at his home.  A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late Bill and Elizabeth Greenlee Davenport.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dan Davenport.  Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He enjoyed going to his cabin in Canada and enjoyed fishing, bear hunting, hiking and especially sitting on his porch talking with his friends.  He was known as a true mountain man.

Surviving is daughters: Josette Fortner (Randall) of Burnsville and Lauren Hoilman (Mitch) of Newland; grandson, Bentley; brothers: Sam Davenport (Margaret) of Charlotte and Billy Davenport (Cindy) of Spruce and best friends: Donald Dale, Norman Dale and Robert Bailey.  Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Oct.  6 in the Greenlee Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V.  Rev. Clay Dale will officiate.  To send online condolences, please visit our website at www.yanceyfuneralservice.com.
