Pisgah Legal Services earlier this month visited the Mitchell County Department of Social Services to share how the two organizations can work in harmony.

PLS staff attorney Joe Mouer and staffer Maxine McLaughlin met with Mitchell DSS staff including Lisa Scott, assessments and investigations social worker, Shana Jenkins, APS supervisor and Amber McKinney, APS social worker.

Mouer talked to DSS staff about how PLS can assist Mitchell residents facing eviction and foreclosure, helping them to avoid homelessness. PLS can also assist DSS with protecting domestic violence victims and keeping orders of protection.

PLS offers free legal services to those struggling to make ends meet. Call 407-4490 to learn more.

McLaughlin talked to DSS staff primarily about the Health and Economic Opportunity Programs available at PLS.
