SPRUCE PINE — Ariana Maniatis joined the News-Journal Monday, June 7 as the paper’s reporter.

Maniatis replaces Juliana Walker, who resigned from the position this past February to take a job with the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. She had served in the role since March 2020.

“I’m excited to welcome Ariana to the team,” said Cory Spiers, News-Journal editor and publisher. “She has the personality to thrive in Mitchell County and has a strong background in writing and English.”

Maniatis was born in New York but grew up in Charlotte. She earned a bachelor of arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Maniatis has worked as a self-employed English tutor, writer and editor.

“I’ve felt so welcomed here in Mitchell County,” she said. “Writing is a passion of mine and I am very excited for this opportunity to be part of such a great team.”
